Optimus Prime/Convoy - truck mode

Description

Optimus Prime (or Convoy, as it was called in Japan) is one of the most recognizable characters not only for Transformer fans, but also to people who are generally not interested in big robots and their transformations.

I like this character so I decided to create him in LEGO. You may probably remind that some years ago I already made a Optimus Prime, but it was a Prime from my imagination (or Cybertron, as some people said ...) made from Bionicle parts mainly.

New MOC is different - model is made from classical system bricks. And yes, when I was building him I tried to make him similar to Optimus Prime figure from "MP-10" version which - in my opinion - is one of the best ever made.

I must admit that this was a experiment. I wasn't sure if this is a good idea to make a figure in such scale. I don't know how long does it takes to design such figure but It's true I spend few months on it. I wanted to give up several times but every time I wanted to destroy it I decided to give it another chance.

Here you can see a version 1.0, but true is it should be a further number because of each correction (yeah, there were lots of them!). And another funny thing - then I was finishing photo-collages I made some another corrections but they must wait till another "Optimus Prime release" (it takes a lot of time to process each picture independently and join into one collage).

Ok, so I believe it's good time to talk about figure. It's transformable, but full transformation takes about 20-30 min and sometimes parts like to fall off during this procedure. This makes model non-playable but for me more important is that both - robot and vehicle modes look good. Oh, and you can actually move each finger independently which is quite rare in Lego Optimus Primes I've seen on Internet.

I don't think It's good idea to talk about articulation and movement - photos should tell you everything. I just say that Optimus's crutch doesn't block the legs (Optimus is able to sit). In vehicle mode wheels can rotate but they depends how you pose each finger.

Many Optimus figures have a very small wheels. I know that this is connected with transformation but I don't like it. So I used some larger instead.

Only patent which I use from another great Optimus Mocer - Boyzwiththemosttoyz - is a using of cheese parts in Optimus's chest. It's a really great patent which makes chest a specific shape. Everything else I designed myself.

There should be a video which shows MOC's functions but I need more time to do it in a good quality.

I hope you like him. I'm looking forward for comments from you.

Have a nice day!
